On: Saturday, August 24, 2013

Upcycling is a really big hobby for many people these days. Part of that is due to the years of living under a difficult economy during the financial crisis. But for others, it is just a fun interest they have always enjoyed and continue to do so. There are certainly a lot of blogs and social media posts dedicated to the practice, and thanks to Macklemore, second hand shops are more popular than ever. At least some of what is bought there is sure to end up as part of a project.

To get tips on how to upcycle, such as projects involving kitchen d?cor, sometimes it is best just to look at what people have already made. Here are ten tips from upcycled items around the web, all having to do with kitchens.

Vinyl record cover box

We have had quite few DIY ideas on how to recycle vinyl records including several projects in upcycling them into check bags and purses (Stylish vinyl records purse and cool vinyl records bags) as well as other, more creative ideas (like cool vinyl records bags and vinyl record into a cool necklace).

But how about the vinyl record covers we all store at home? How can we reuse them as well?

Here's a fun and very useful idea: vinyl record cover box (find the full tutorial here).

Gotta love the stylish design that would make a perfect match into a retro interior! And it looks like a useful storage utility too! On top of all, it looks easy to do and is absolutely free.

If you frequent my little blog, you are likely to know how much I love cool original ideas. This vinyl record necklace just made my day.

It looks chick and the implementation is just awesome.

A black record album has been heated and then folded over itself to give the effect of warped pavement.

Looks cool, doesn't it?

On: Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Do you still have vinyl records at home. Sadly, we used to move places so often that I couldn't keep them but if you still have, here's a great way to recycle a couple of them: a handy vinyl record bookend (if you still read offline books of course):

  1. Dip the album into the water up to the bottom of the label, making sure your outside label is straight.
  2. Start bending the album as it softens.
